I’m a student attending the University of Houston, and as we all know, getting around Houston is impossible without a car. I didn’t know that when I came here from Oklahoma, so I was expecting what I had come to think of as a mainstay in college towns (which I’m guessing Houston would be since it has, what, five colleges? Not counting the community colleges) is the good and cheap public transportation system. Again, as we all know, this does not exist. So, I had to get a car.
I ended up getting the Houston Chevrolet Aveo, which I think is the perfect car for any student. You might have to sacrifice some of the things that make most cars popular, but you really can’t argue with the price–its base price is ten thousand dollars and at most it will cost you fourteen thousand. If you shop around and get a rebate or a low interest rate, you can probably do even better.
The controls are very easy to get used to, so that’s a plus for the Houston Chevrolet Aveo. The part that really won me over is that, even though it’s a smaller car, it has plenty of room for my head–I’m really tall, and no, I don’t play basketball. It’s not as fuel efficient as I would like it to be, and this doesn’t mesh with the fact that the engine isn’t very powerful, but it’s still cheaper on gas than the cars of a lot of my friends.
I got the Houston Chevrolet Aveo 5, which is a four door hatchback and it looks really cute. The trim level I got wa the Special Value, and it comes with very little in terms of features. You only get a radio with a cassette player, but I bought one of those cassettes that have plug into your iPod so that I could convert it. It’s a lot cheaper than adding the CD player option.
