My wife, Michelle, wants a car for her own. I really don’t want to give her a secondhand car, but I’d like something that I can consider low maintenance. After all, Michelle’s still a relatively new driver. What would you recommend?

Hi there, Al! Good question there, what’s a good starter car for the missus? The average choice for the wife would usually by a mini-SUV or a crossover. But since you are harping more on the convenience of having a low maintenance vehicle, I think your wife is better off driving a compact in Texas. I am assuming that your wife, Michelle, will be the primary driver of the car and she won’t be driving a lot of people around with her.
I think the 2009 Chevrolet Aveo will be a great start for your wife. However, I would pick out the Aveo 2LT Sedan for her. You can still fit 5 people inside the car and drive around with ease with its 1.6 L VVT engine. It also has cruise control. In terms of ease on your wallet, the Aveo 2LT can still do 25 miles per gallon in the city and 34 miles per gallon on the highway.
